Jubilate Chamber Choir, Cheltenham


 

Ian Higginson was born on Merseyside and moved to Gloucestershire in 1983. He studied conducting with the late Dr. Melville Cook, Jonathan Delmar and Sir David Willcocks, and the organ with Ian Tracey and John Scott. He holds Fellowships from nine musical institutions in the UK and abroad.
Ian is Conductor and Artistic Director of Jubilate Chamber Choir, Director of Music for the University of Gloucestershire, Conductor of Cirencester Philharmonia Orchestra and The English Concertante Orchestra and Organist at St. Edward's School where he teaches piano and organ. He has also held the position of Organist to the Cathedral Singers of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, and has been invited to conduct choral workshops in the UK and the USA. He has performed in many of the country's major concert venues, cathedrals and churches, both as conductor and organist.

In 2006 Ian received an award from Cheltenham Arts Council in recognition of his work with choirs in the Cheltenham area and the first performance of his choral work "In Times of Trouble". He has composed and arranged much music, which has been published by Hinshaw Music USA,St. James Music Press USA, Boosey & Hawkes, Animus and Parish Publications. He, recently, has been commissioned to write some choral music for a choir in Jersey and some of his vocal music is used as set pieces for competitive festivals around the UK.
Much of Ian's music has won critical acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic, and has been performed at prestigious events, including the Piccolo Spoleto Festival USA, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir Christmas Concerts, and by the City of Glasgow Chorus, and the CBSO Orchestra and Chorus.
